Kemps are Important Part of Bay.
E. Burton and Kathleen Kemp III have made a significant contribution to Bay St. Louis and Hancock County since their move to Bay St. Louis 16 years ago.
Kathleen has just been named Hancock Junior High School?s Parent of the Year for her volunteer work at the junior high school and at several other schools where she teaches the ?Too Good For Drugs? program. She has now been nominated for	the "	Mississippi Parent of the Year by the teachers and faculty at Hancock County Junior High School.
But they were no strangers to Bay St. Louis and the Coast, having spent every summer at her grandmother?s home in Bay St. Louis for most of the years since their marriage in 1954. Kathleen grew up in Pass Christian. They bought their present home in 1975 but came as permanent residents in 1982.
Burton was bom and raised in New Orleans and educated at Jesuit and at Louisiana State University. He had two sisters and a brother. One sister lives in New Orleans and one in Gonzales, La., while the brother lives in New York.
He graduated from LSU in geology and finished Tulane graduate school in geology. He has worked in the field of environmental geology except for a brief period with the oil industry.
He worked for the Corps of Engineers from 1957 to 1992 before retiring. During that period, he saw a change evolve in his work from one where the Corps did foundation studies and to one involving land use issues such as hazardous and solid
