WHEREAS, out of a tragedy came a people determined to fight with a spirit of supernatural courage, to rebuild, repair and remake their personal lives; and
WHEREAS, it is just this courage that has been the guiding light for all to behold of these citizens; and
WHEREAS, they had a tremendous task before them in remaking their lives and with this determination, they have accomplished a deed for all to support; and
WHEREAS, we, the people of New Orleans, have great admiration for the task undertaken by the citizens of the Gulf Coast, as we in 1965 had a similiar task before us; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Gulf Coast Area have and will have our prayers and admiration rendered to a great people:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Victor H. Schiro, Mayor of the City of New Orleans, do hereby proclaim Friday, October 3, 1969, to be
SALUTE TO THE GULF COAST AREA DAY
to our neighbors across the way.
