CEDAR REST CEMETERY
NATHANIEL LUTHER
S-9-21
of Falls River, Mass Died 8-15-1847/ 63 years
My name is Nathaniel Luther. Mine is the only black headstone in this cemetery. It is a slate stone.
The only thing people know about me is on the stone. I came here from Falls River, Mass. I died in 1847 and I was 63 years old.
Since I lived in a river town I had to be a fisherman. And in 1847 Bay St. Louis was a fishing town. I probably came down the Mississippi River and drifted over to BSL.
My stone is 152 years old. This time last year it was leaning at a 45 degree angle. And, as you can see, it has a piece broken.
When a stone starts leaning it is only time until it is broken, or, falls to the ground. Once it falls to the ground it gets broken or gets buried in the ground or taken away. Since this is the only black stone in the cemetery the Historical Society had it straightened up But because it is so tall, it needs reinforcing if it lasts another 152 years.
If you know anybody kin to me would you ask them to reinforce my base and take care of my beautiful stone.
Thank You
