i A native of Hancock county in that section now known as Fenton, Joseph i O. Mauffray came to Bay St. Louis July, 1890, and has resided here ever since?52 years ago. A son of J. C. ^ Mauffray and the late Armantine Cuevas,
Mr. Mauffray came to Bay St. ( in his early teens and became asso- , ciated in the dry goods store of ,5 George Planchet, which he later -ft bought from Jos. F. Cazeneuve, (who had purchased it after Mr. Planchet?s death) and owned and operated it from 1903 to 1939, when he retired from active business, and the business continues ' today under the well known name of Jos. O. Mauffray, but1 purchased by his children and son-in-law. Thus for thirty-six years Mr. Mauffray operated the business and continued for it the name and prestige of its predecessors and ex-panding its usefulness, and value.	(

pointment under the administration of Gov. Hugh White.
As vice president Mr. Mauffray served the Merchants Bank & Trust Company in that capacity from 1910 to 1915, and on the death of Mr. ^ Perkins he served as president from A 1915 to 1925, when he retired for a ^ surcease from business activity.	-W

Founded by Jos. O. Mauffray in 1905, two years after the purchase by Mr. Mauffray of the Dry Goods business of Joseph F. Cazeneuve Company. Mauffray branched into two separate businesses.
The hardware business founded at this time in its present location, carried the name of Jos. O. Mauffray from 1905-1939 then became known as the Mauffray's Hardware Store and has continuously carried a complete stock to accommodate patrons of Hancock County.
