THE TWO IMMIGRANT BROTHERS Charles McCarty	1608-abt. 1668
Owen McCarty	1617-
Owen evidently died without marrying because no McCarty has been named Owen.
They came to Virginia in May, 1635 on the ship THE PLAIN JOAN.
Their father was Cormac Oge McCarthy of Blarney Castle. His ancestor a'iSo cnamed'.^CcirmaGp builtifchei-BlaEneycastle in 1446.
The Blarney Castle is the most famous castle in Ireland because it has the Blarneystone, the kissing of which is supposed to bring good luck. The Blarneystone does not get many kisses now that AIDS is upon us.
This is how the Blarney castle got its name;
When the Sheriff came to the McCarthy Castle to collect the taxes, Cormac would always have a hard luck story to get out of paying.
This happened so many times that the Sheriff started saying LETS GO LISTEN TO SOME MORE BLARNEY when it was time to collect the McCarthy tax. So it became the Blarneycastle.
The McCarthys also owned or built Kilkrea Castle.
When the Italians came to America, they thought that everyone was saying baloney when referring to an untruth, and they started saying baloney instead of blarney, and now everybody says baloney instead of blarney.
I	suspect that this change of words came from everyone being afraid to tell an Italian that he is wrong.
The Irish spelling of McCarty is McCarthy but the H is silent.
