John ?Uncle Butch? NKcCarty and Jane Frierson McCaijtJf:were typical of the rural pToneers who settled and raised families in the piney woods. They are here pictured with three of their four children. Pictured are
K.G., C.W. and Bonnie. Hie old dog in the picture was named Pedro, and almost all rural farm families back in the old days had a watch dog. Besides acting as a watch dog, old-Pedro also acted as a messenger, carrying
messages from the McCsr^ home to the home of Jim aM Mary Frierson nearby. They?d just tie a rote to the dogs collar and off he'd go. This picture was taken about 1905. j The McCarty?s lived in the Nicholson area.
