William Gause (d. Brunswick Co., N.C. 1801) md.
Ellizabeth Bacot (Bacot is S.C. Huguenot line). It was his brother, Charles Gause (d. 1808), who was Eleanor Miller Leonardsecond husband (see chart).'
William Gause had, among other children, Samuel (d. 1811) who md. Margaret Anna Council (d. 10/17/1839), and Peter (1784-1824), nuncupative will dated Jan. 1824, Brunswick Co.), who md. Sarah Goodman (b. 10A2/1787; d. 7/4/1848). See III below for Sarah?s Potter connection.
Samuel Gause and Margaret Anna Council Gause had, among other children, William James Gause (1794-1825) who md. his first cousin, Sarah Ann Gause, daughter of Peter Gause and Sarah Goodman Gause.
Sarah Goodman Gause md. 2nd John Poitevent (father of William James and Jacob), his first wife, Esther Leonard, having died.
William James Gause and Sarah Ann Gause Gause had one daughter, Mary Jane Gause, who md. Jacob Poitevent.
After William James Gause died in 1825, his widow,
Sarah Ann Gause Gause, md. 2nd Edward James FitzGerald.
Their son, William Henry FitzGerald. (1830-1904) was greatgrandfather of George F. Maynard III, husband of Isabel Barksdale Maynard. The children of Edward James FitzGerald and Sarah Ann Gause Gause FitzGerald were:
1.	William Henry b. 9-29-1830, Smithville, N.C.; d. 6-18-1904, Coahoma County, Miss.
2.	Peter Fletcher, b. II-2-I836; a doctor, died 1878 in Grenada, Miss, during yellow fever epidemic, married twice, no descendants.
