I expect that Leonard never got over his parent?s death and compensated by being a mentor for his brother. After Leonard?s first wife, Mary, died in childbirth, he married his Poitevent cousin. His grave was moved from Gainsville to Picayune when the Test Site was constructed.
In 1932, the Iris Society of Lousiana dedicated a Rainbow Memorial to her, a lagoon in City Park, and were supposed to have erected a bird fountain. When I looked into it, neither City Park nor the Iris Society knew anything about it. I sent them the newspaper clippings of the event, hopefully reviving their interest in reconstructing the memorial.
