Now I am one of the Perre family. In addition to a renewed acquaintance with Carol and Kay, I've seen Lucille and met her daughter Lisa and son Philip and their families. I've corresponded with and spoken to Edgar's widow, Bettie Dutton Perre, and the same with Emile's youngest daughter, Rita Ann Perre-Davis. I met Toto and his wife Evelyn.
The Perre family had a penchant for nicknames. Lucille told me her Uncle Hipolyte Perre, called Uncle Polite (French pronunciation -- Po-leet) liked nicknames and was responsible for some.
Chick- The name was given to Leonide by Uncle Polite because she was so small.
Hook- Lucille got this name from a' family friend in the Gex family. The lady worked with Indians and from that she began calling Lucille, Hook-Lilly Hook, an Indian name. She has had that nickname since age four.
Toe Toe - When Leon was just learning to talk he got a
new pair of shoes. Uncle Polite asked him what did he have on the right foot -- reply was toe. What did he have on the left foot -- reply was toe. Thus toe - toe.
Juliette- Hook stated she was always called Jewel.
There is a/Separate section for each of the Perre children.
