erect as he was there, a real statesman there, got to the door there for us to go in for the hearing and he stood there and Senator Eastland introduced him to Boyce and me and then he said, "Mr. Russell, that is one of the finest men in this whole United States Senate. He is my friend." And Senator Eastland in his own typical way said, "Dirk, cut out the BS. Let's get this thing over with." And we did. We went in there like Boyce said. A lot of questions that they asked me, and I know Boyce was nervous there too. And they did ask me about the Supreme Court. I said, "Well, I've been up there on one occasion." And they asked me, "What is your expertise?" Senator Eastland said, "Dirk, he's a country lawyer. He doesn't need an expertise. He knows it all." It's good to have good help like that to get an appointment. And Walter knows that too. But then we came back. We did go over to his office there.
