ARCHITECTURE - UNION HEADQUARTERS
WHARTON HOUSE 243 East Scenic Drive Pass Christian, Mississippi
As you drive along Pass Christian?s Scenic Drive, the tranquil view of the Mississippi Sound, large oaks, and picket fences will put you in a receptive mood to visit the antebellum home Pierre Saucier built in 1856. The magnificient galleries, two-story square columns, and reception halls furnished with period antiques have been a source of joy for all who have shared the hospitality of the four owners. During the War for Southern Independence the Union Troops occupied the house and organized the Reconstruction of the Pass Christian area. Wishing to be entertained, the soldiers asked if any family member could play the piano. Mary Catherine Saucier played ?The Bonnie Blue Flag?. The State of Mississippi marked the house with an historic marker and today the home is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. This lovely treasure is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wharton.
