Waveland's biggest industry during the 1880s was the Ulman	10L
Woolen Mills. This business was constructed and financed by Alfred A. Ulman, whose father was mayor of Bay St. Louis at one time. The old Ulman homestead, called Rosedale, was well known throughout the South. It was located north of the Catholic Church.
The mill was a huge frame building located on Nicholson Avenue, immediately north of the railroad tracks. Its primary product was wool blankets. It also made shawls; large black and
white plaid shawls in block patterns were popular. As far as possible, these products were manufactured of pure wool to make the fabric endure. The mill was recognized for its superb workmanship, and its products were of a long-lasting, superior quality (Thompson, 1958) (Eagle'58;p.17) .
