SEARCH INTO THE FAMILY OF LUDWIG HERMANN VON GOHREN
Ludwig Hermann von Gohren was bom in Strausburg, Germany in 1844. However, the ship passenger log indicates he came from, Saxony at 16 years of age. He had a brother Oskar, who matriculated to the United States, never married. He had a brother Paul who remained in Germany. He had a sister Elizabeth of whom we know very little. His parents were Baron Oscar von Gohren and Amanda Eckert, his wife.
Ludwig became a Doctor of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana and I have been able to trace his lineage to the present. I am his great granddaughter, Lucia von Gohren Connick.
Prior to his coming to the United States, aboard the SS Hanover out of Bremen in 1860. I know very little.
I would like to know how Dr. Hermann Franz Muller apparently known as Theodor is related. I have a post card from Germany from him to Caroline on occasion of the death of the Doctor in 1906 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, USA.
I know Ludwig married Caroline Beret from France in New Orleans but know only that she probably came from Aliases Lorraine. Today. May 8, 2000 I was able to locate a photocopy of Dr. L.H. von Gohren?s American Citizenship paper dated October 25, 1897. In those days the wife did not have to apply for citizenship, she automatically became a citizen when her husband did.
I have an announcement of the wedding of Kapitainleutnant Lothar von Gohren of the Admirablstaab de Marine. The bride was Dorothee von Tzschoppe, whose father was The Imperial Prussian Sr. Privy Consular probably in Potsdam in 1905. Her mother was the former Adelheiid von Steuban. His marriage to Dorothee von Trsschoippe in 1905 indicates it took place probably in Berlin or Potsdam. I have a newspaper clipping showing that Lothar became an Admiral.
My brother and his family made a trip to Germany several years ago and found information in Moodling showing a street named vonGohrenstrasse and a large photograph of this von Gohren in the City Hall. A burial plot exists for this gentleman which my brother saw.
I have another announcement of the wedding of Elisabeth, which reads Die Verlobung unsereer Tochter Elisabeth mit Herm Landrichteer Walther von Gohren, Leutnant d. L., in Weimar beehrten wir uns anzuzeign to Walther von Gohren in September 1905 in Weimar The bride?s father was Victor Bomgen und Frau geb. Burkhardt from Jena. Because I have these documents I believe in both cases they are related to our line. I would like to know if either man served in WWI and in what capacity.
My nephew Ludwig Christian (Chris) discovered a family tree among his father?s things showing the family crest and follows the line from 1560 to 1910.
