excitement as well as extreme heat, Steve's "fat melted." (In modern terms he suffered a heat stroke.) No one knew how to care for this sudden illness, so he passed on in a few hours. His place of interment has never been located in the present generation.
After the death of Steve Richardson, Betsey married Thomas Jefferson Brass-field b. 1804, d. 1865, who was a son of Zachariah Brassfield and his wife Mary Bickham.
It seems that Tom Brassfield was well thought of by his step-children as well	as	his neighbors.	He	assisted his wife	in the	running of the water	mill
and served as a Justice	of	the Peace for his	Ward.	The road that led to	the
mill even took his name. Part of it exists today and still goes by the Brassfield name. (Through the years it has become known as the "Bassfield Road," the r having been omitted.)
The estate of Betsey Morris and her husband was settled in June, 1866, through August, 1867, by Hardy Richardson, administrator. Below is a list of receipts found in the Hardy Richardson papers that indicate when most of the heirs received their part of the estate:

James 0. Pool and S. R. Pool signed similar receipts on June 14, 1866.
