got to know the Nuns and made friends. She excelled in her school work, especially in Math. She was just starting the 10th grade when her mother died from cancer on October 5, 1928. With Velma being the oldest girl in the family (sister, Mamie had married and moved to Ansley), her father required her to drop-out of school and come home to take care of the family. At age sixteen, she became the ?mother? to her eight other siblings still at home as well as her father. She did most of the cooking, washing, cleaning, etc. for her family. While she much regretted not getting an education, she felt that her first responsibly was to her family.
Following her marriage and with three young boys, she thought life could not get any better. Then, bad luck struck again - her husband, Carl was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died on July 29, 1963. Now with three young boys to raise and little income, she made the best of her situation and raised her ?boys? to become good citizens of the community. She had many challenges with ?her boys? but she prayed, persisted, and prayed some more for the strength to be not just a good mother, but a good father as well. As we three boys grew into manhood, we often felt how fortunate we were to have ?Red? for our mother. She is sadly missed! Velma and Carl Heitzmann had the following three children:
a. Jerry David Heitzmann - bom on October 15, 1946
b. Carl Joseph ?C.J.? Heitzmann - bom on November 24, 1948
c.	Raymond George ?Ray? Heitzmann - bom on January 8, 1950

Bully was a WWII Veteran having served with the Cavalry in various parts of Europe. On July 11, 1951, he married Mittie Agnes Maskew, and they had five children:

In case no one noticed, Herbert C. Zengarling, Jr. is the last male to carry the Zengarling family name. He has one daughter and a son, Jason C. Zengarling, born January 27, 1981. Jason is now 30 year old, and if he does not produce a male heir there will no longer be anyone to carry this old and respected family name into the future.
10.	Eva Barbara Zengarling - bom on March 16, 1917 in Bayou La Croix and died on June 13, 2010 in Bay St. Louis. She is buried in the Bayou La Croix
