Weir, William Jessie  -  May 8, 1934

Weir, William J. 79, Aged and beloved citizen passes on. Funeral Wednesday afternoon - Interment at Cedar Rest - Rev. Gray conducts last rites.

Following a spell of illness, William Jessie Weir, aged 79 years, passed away at his home, corner South Beach Boulevard and Bookter Avenue, Tuesday evening, May 8, 1934, at 7 o'clock.

He was a native of Alabama and the husband of the late Fannie Bookter. He is survived by two sons, H. J. Weir, of Jackson, Miss., Bookter Weir of Las Vegas, Nev., two daughters, Mrs. W. A. Moran of Dallas, Texas, and Miss Pearl Weir of Bay St. Louis.

He spent the early part of his married life as a planter in Washington county, Miss., later years as county tax collector. The past six years or more he had retired and resided at his place of residence in this city. Funeral rites took place Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. J. E. Gray, pastor First Methodist church, officiating. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World order.

Mr. Weir was a kindly and beloved figure. Cultured, genial and ever friendly, a scholar and withal a gentleman of the old school. His passing away is an occasion for sorrow and general regret and his demise is noted with more than ordinary feeling. The family has the sympathy of many friends here and elsewhere.

Interment was at Cedar Rest cemetery.
