Obituary Record

Posey, Kate  -  December 25, 1900

Mrs. Kate Posey, widow of Hon. Ben Lane Posey, the distinguished jurist, who died about the year of '88, passed peacefully away into the world eternal, after an illness of complicated organic trouble of about six weeks' duration.

Mrs. Posey of late years had been in enfeebled health, and from the time of the death of her daughter last September became a very sick woman, unable to recover from the shock. All the care and attention of loved ones proved unavailing. No woman had more devoted stepchildren than she, ever solicitous of her comfort and well being.

Mrs. Posey, a sister of Mr. John H. Lang, of Pass Christian, was a Mississippian and had lived fifty years. She leaves two children, Kate and Ben Lane Posey, and stepchildren, Mrs. E J. Bowers, of this city; Mrs. Frank Dabney, of Memphis; Miss Zoe Posey and Mr. Hilary H. Posey of this city.

The funeral, which was largely attended, took place yesterday morning, and all that was mortal of a good, generous and noble-hearted woman was tenderly laid away to rest in the family burial plot at St. Luke's cemetery.

Todays Biloxi Herald says:

On Thursday morning last at Bay St. Louis, Mrs. Ben Lane Posey passed away at the age of 50 years to the great sorrow of relatives and hosts of friends. She was the daughter of the late Hon. John Lane and the widow of Hon. Ben Lane Posey, who was one of the most prominent attorneys on the coast. She leaves two children of her own and four stepchildren to mourn ber loss, aud their grief is indeed great. They will have the condolences of many friends in Biloxi, who will share their sorrow with them.
