Sylvester, James Howard  -  June 2, 1928

James Howard Sylvester is dead.

The announcement of his demise came suddenly, just as he had died, when he passed away at 10 o'clock Saturday night, at his home out Blue Meadow Road. (Main St.) Mr. Sylvestor had not been suffering from immediate ailment, but from time to time complained of general ill health.

He was a son of the late James Sylvester, a pioneer resident of later Bay St. Louis, well-known and highly esteemed. The sons, Howard and William, both deceased, followed in his path of life pitched on high plane, enjoying the respect and esteem of all who knew him as a citizen of lofty principles.

The funeral took place Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the late residence. Rev. Harkey,of the First Methodist church, conducted the funeral ceremony, both at the church and at Cedar Rest Cemetery. There was a large attendance, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, and the floral offerings where both beautiful and numerous.

James Howard Sylvester was born in Baldwin county 67 years ago, and had been a resident of Bay St. Louis for the past fifty years. He is survived by his widow who, before her marriage was Miss Cornelia Collier, and seven children. These are sons; Monroe, Wallace, and Milton; daughters, Mrs. Irene Tudury, Mrs. John D. Mollere, Mrs. Gerald V. Price of Algiers; Mrs. A. M. Walker of Bay St. Louis; also a sister, Mrs. T. B. Turner of Waynesboro, Texas.

Mr. Sylvester's death removes from our community a splendid and substantial citizen, and The Echo chronicles his demise with more than ordinary regret, and to his family extends sympathy.
