is a qualified voter of said city shall be eligible for any office of profit or trust therein, except that no person shall be eligible to be elected to the office of Alderman wh o has not been a bona fide rwsident of the ward to represent 'which he is elected for at least one month next preceding his election; they shall each, before they enter uppon the discharge of their respective duties, take^ the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution of the State; thw term of office of such Mayor, AldermenJ Assessor and Collector of taxes, Treasurer, Marshal, and Secretary shall commence on the first Saturday next following their election; the present city officers shall continue in office until the first Saturday next following their electioh; the present city officers shall continue in office until the first Saturday after the first Monday in April, 1886, and until their successors are elected and qualified*

Be It further enacted, That the registration of the electors of &aid city under fcfaid~act shall be made by the Secretary of the city; the Board of Mayor and Aldermen shall puocure all necessary books for that pur pose, and said Secretary shall make ^a poll-book from said registration books and the name of each elector shall appear therein in alphabetical prder, and said poll-book shall be delivered by said Secretary to the commissioners of election In time for any election to be held under this act; after each election said poll-book shall be returned by said commissioner to said Secretary.
SEC. 18/ Be it further enacted, That the Secretary of the city shall register on the registration books any one entitled to be refister-ed as an elector on his appearing before &lm and taking an subscribing the following oath or affirmation:	"I dp solemnly swear(affirm)
