Dear Norman:
Our Society is inquiring as to wheather it is possible to be considered to make an application for a State Historical Marker, before the deadline is up in 1984.
iVe would like to have a marker for the Battle of the War of 1812 which took place off Point Clear and the Bay of St. Louis.
The records state that they came into the fctwn and burned the buildings here.
We would like to have 4t placed at Bucaneer Park where it would be viewed by thousands who camp there and visifcteech year.
As you know the town was called Shieldsboro for a Tpoinas Shields who was in this battle and carried the flag of truce.
Please let us know what you think about this and also about the funding area for a marker.
Also would like to let you know we have just about completed the recording of Cedar Rest Cemetery, next to the Antique Mall, and it is on the National Register. We hope toljmblish a record of the cemetery as soon as possi ble. Are there any matching funds for publications like this that you know about?
Hope to hear from you about these requests as soon as
Margaret M. "Peggy" G-ihbens President
