The area has historically been a tourist center and a choice location for conventions of many national and regional organizations. U.S. Highway 90, which
runs between Biloxi and Gulfport, has the highest traffic count of the state with a daily figure of 36, 000 cars passing in front of the Edgewater Plaza. In addition, Pass Road, which runs directly behind the cite, has a daily traffic count of 14, 000 vehicles at the centcr. The drive along U.S. 90 is one of the loveliest in existence with fine motels, hotels, and beautiful hemes on one side and a 27 mile, 300 foot un-interrupted white sand beach on the other.
The tourist and convention business generates somewhere between ?125, 000, 000 end £150, 000, 000 of new money for the area every year. Biloxi is starting to look like Lac Vegas with many of the same attractions.
There are two definite seasons on the Gulf, one being the summer and the second being the winter and spring. There is a definite upward trend each year in hotel and motel occupancy which points toward the demand for good accommodations.
