Officials of the	city regrouped,	and conferred with the
Board on what sort of	arrangement would	be	acceptable. A couple
of months	later, the minutes of a Special	Term of Police	Court
held June	8, 1868 set out the city's	latest	offer:
■Whereas the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Shieldsborough have made the proposal to exchange a lot of land now claimed or owned in said City by the County of Eancock for one lot of land belonging to said City for the purpose of erecting thereon a Court house for said County. It is therefore agreed between the said Board of Mayor and Aldermen and the Board of the Police of said County that the said Board of Mayor and Aldermen shall convey to the County of Hancock the lot of land proposed to be exchanged and that the Board of Police of said county shall convey the lot of land now owned by the County of Hancock to said City of Shieldsborough on the condition that said last specified
