The following resolutions vere passed yesterday, August V, 1868,
by the Chamber of Commerce at a meeting held yesterday evening:
Resolved, That this Chamber has heard vith interest and instruction
the address of Dr. James C. Noyes on the feasibility of the Mississippi
& Mexican Gulf Shin C«nal, and it is led .to believe therefrom, as veil
as from its own general knowledge, that the plan is perfectly

practicable and will afford a better smcLcheaper channel to the Lakes

and Gulf than any artificial way noi^^fctsting; thst it will also be far better, deeper and cheaper than th^t projected by way of Bayou Manchac.
Resolved, thst the Chamber cheerfully commends to capitalists, at home and abroad, an investment in this work, as promising an advantageous increase in the trade of our city, as well aS satisfactory dividends on the estimated cost of construction.
