THE ELDERBERRY BUSH
Dear Lord, I'm thankful, for a wish come true For each Sunday mom, I look at you Lo! When the chapel window opens wide I raise my leafy leaves and look inside I love to hear the organ softly play And watch the faithful, bow their heads and pray Though 1 am nothing but and humble bush I'm growing here, because, it is your wish.
Inspired by the elderberry bush that grows at the St. Joseph's chapel window
TO MY COTTAGE
When you come to the crossroad
Follow the path where the tall pines grow
And before you know you will reach the cottage of my dreams
Its snowy white, and its windows gleam
Behind its doors are a million dreams
Tho' its very small, still there's room for all
In the cottage of my dreams
Oft when 1 sit reminiscing at the close of the day
I'm fancy I seem to see, the boys that I love at play
I wouldn't change my cottage, for the palace of a king
For nobody knows any more than me
What a fond memory can bring
DAY SAINT LOUIS
August 7, 1953
The songs written in this book are my own composition. Through the years, from 1917 to 1953 the inspiration to compose the lyrics and melody of these songs came at intervals sometime a year would go by before I would compose a song, and then I would compose any number of songs in a few weeks or even days. I have wished very often that someday, someone would hear one of these songs and maybe, this song would become popular - who knows- this could happen. Never the less I have had lots of fun with my song composing hobby. I will soon reach my sixty-fifth milestone, so it's been a long time from twenty-six to sixty-five, guess as long as I live I will write a song -- "Thank God for This" "With a song in My Heart"
Sincerely,
Marguerite L. P. Backman
