I am told the Miss Central road is now finished but about 23 or 24 miles?(the road we came over) staging that distance? and it is said to be most awful?it takes 10 hours to do it in? the stage Horses are all broken down & every thing bad?so I was (in the state of the weather) deterred from going that way?& concluded to take the Packet boat down to Vicksburg?& from thence via rail to New Orleans?I shall be there Tuesday night next if nothing happens--&c. &c?&?
as the weather is very bad upon the stock--please tell Alfred to have the Cows & especially the calves & sheep attended to & all other of our stock left?I will now close?with much love to all--I hope you wrote Martha &c &c?give my Love to aunt Marion?& Kiss Sis & the children for me & the Dr. & take a whooper for yourself?& believe me to be as ever your truly affectionate
