Charles Crosby first appears in the 1850 census of Middleburgh, Schoharie Co., NY, house #1090-1091 as age 9 (1841). He is in the home of his parents, Abijah and Betsey Crosby with two brothers and one sister. Charles is listed in the 1855 Census of Middleburg, NY with his parents and the record states he was born in "Schoharie County". He appears again in the 1860 census (same place) as age 19 with parents and siblings.
In the 1870 census of Middleburgh, house #255-206, we find Charles Crosby, age 26; wife, Anna, age 32; Eudora, age 8; and Emory, age 4. In the 1880 Census of Schoharie, Schoharie Co., NY, we find Charles Crosby, age 3 9; wife, Anna, 42; daughter, "Eudora", age 17; son, "Emery", age 14; daughter, Emma, 5; and son, Charles, age 8.
Charles Crosby married Ester "Ann" Rickard on May 25, 18 62 in Schoharie, NY as listed in the "Schoharie Patriot", an old local newspaper. Ester "Ann" Rickard was the daughter of Nicholas Rickard and Elmira Kinney. She was born on November 30, 1838 and died on September 8, 1894 in Huntersland, as listed on her headstone in Huntersland Christian (Union) Cemetery. Her obituary can be found in the September 13, 1894 edition of the "Middleburgh News" in Schoharie Co., NY. It said her maiden name was Rickard, and she leaves behind her husband, Charles Crosby, and family. It also said she died of cancer, was kind-hearted and well respected in her community. The death took place in Huntersland, NY. Her New York death certificate is on file in the town of Middleburgh and verifies the above.
It names her parents as "Nickolas Rickard and Almira Rickard". This is not her maiden name and will be discussed later. It also says she was born in Schoharie Co., NY. To be more exact, she was probably born in the town of Schoharie within Schoharie Co.
She first appears in the 1850 census of Schoharie, Schoharie Co., NY, house #1586-1587 as "Anna Rickard" age 12, living with her parents,
"Nicholas and Elmira Rickard" and her siblings. She appears again in the census of 1860 of Schoharie, NY as "Ann", age 21, with family.
Charles Crosby and Ester "Ann" Rickard had the following children:
I.	Eudora "Dora" Crosby - born in 1862 and married Ezra A. Weidman.
She and her family have been previously covered.
II.	Emery "Emra" Crosby- born in 1866 according to the 1870 census of Middleburgh, NY where he was age 4. He appears again in the 1880 census with his parents as age 14. He next appears in the 1910 census of Binghamton, Broome, Co., NY as "Emory Crosby, age 43, widowed, with one son, Emory Crosby, Jr. age 14 (1896)". This fits in with what Eulalie Chilson, a Rickard researcher sent us in a 2005 email. She said Emra Crosby married on November 3, 1888 in Broome Co. to Emma A. Rickard (daughter of George W. Rickard and Sara Ann Haverly). She was born 1869 and died 1892. She said he married a second time to Louise (maiden name unknown), and she died at age 26 based on her obituary in an old newspaper clipping. It did not give a date of death, but said she is survived by her husband "Emra Crosby and one son, Emra".
