Papa, Manuel, and Walter used to make whiskey and we stored all that whiskey in our attic. One time Aunt Maude, Everita and I were at the house, and Tony come hauling freight down the road and told us to get those sacks off that line. The Sugar they used to make the whiskey came in 50 to 100 LB sacks. We had washed 8 to 10 of them and had em hanging out. Tony said the revenuers were coming get the sacks off that line. When we got-en in about that time I looked up and there was one walking up. We talked to him for a few minutes and he told us he was an Odom from Picayune and proberly kin to us. They never came back and they never bothered us again.
They had barrels and barrels of whiskey buried side the hill under those pecan trees covered up with leaves and stuff.
Mr. Fred Curet came and loaded it all up and took it off they never did that again.
I was never sick. George was sick he was bom in Gulfport by a Dr. Dearman delivered him and stayed under the care of him for a long time. He had some kind of shaking spells and Papa had to put locks on the door so he couldn?t get out at night. They said it was something wrong with his nerves.
George and Herbert had the whopping cough. They were bad. They were real bad off. Herbert, George, Lena, and Verdlee all had the measles at the same time.
We couldn?t get Lena?s to come out on her. Mr. Alec Hart came over and told us to give her some wine, when we told him we didn?t have any he went home and got some and brought it back and gave Lena a little bit.
Herbert thought he was over his so he went over to the cowshed and started drinking and got so sick he had to go to the hospital. He was deathly ill. I had to go stay with him.
He was in the room with other people. Manuel and Everita had to take care of the other kids. Lillian had them too. When they all had-em.
Sometimes Grandma and Grandpa Perkins would come down and stay two or three days with us. They would do this every once in a while.
We had a dog. When the kids would go outside the yard the dog would bark, you better go see what was wrong with-em they were doing something they were not supposed to. When you went after them with a switch, the dog would come after us. Every once in a while I had to get after them. We had that dog for fourteen years.
For Christmas, Verdlee and Lena would get a Little doll. Herbert and George would get a French horn and a Knife. I got a little set of dishes. They were made of China. But I don?t know what happen to them. I kept asking everyone what happen to them but no one knows. The whole set was in the hatbox that was left in the Armoire.
